The Audience

    I turn it off
    shut my eyes
    the lights go out
           and my eyes roll back
                                     into my head
            across my memories

day night day night day night day night day night day night day night day night day night day night day night day night day night day night
flickering on for years and years
                             across my screen

The scene I'm seeing seems to be
my life reeled out in front of me

But if I fade out and
adjust my lenses to the dark

    I can see the projector
watch me sit alone in the dark and
watch myself walk around in the projection
of souls repeating and repeating and repeating

Then blinking, who was I playing for?
    Then blinking, only yourself.
    Then blinking, what now?
And the person in the audience takes a bow
And the people on the screen form a temple with their hands
And I put mine together for them
as the light from the exit shines out of my head

through the slits of my still closed eyes.
